You Decide the Virtue!

by Ron West, Publisher NRHOnline.com

A NRH Citizen who led the fight against the Senior Tax Freeze, is now waging a venomous attack on this website and against me personally.  He utilized the citizen presentation portion of the Council meeting last Monday night for an attack and has released several columns to LNO calling this site a BLOG which he defined as Bumbling Ludicrous Outrageous Gobbledygook and a (BLOG) and Bumbling Outrageous Obnoxious Gobbledygook (BOOG).

While I sometimes feel as if my efforts at publicizing the activities of our elected officials are bumbling due to my own inadequacies, I hope that readers will look beyond the personal aspects of the attacks being made and search instead for the truth in each situation.  Should a reader have specific questions of facts or wish to express their own view points, I would encourage you to submit them.  As with any site of this nature, the bulk of the information presented is from my personal view point.  I do not expect everyone to blindly accept anything I present and encourage all readers to do their own homework as they have interest.

Since this person led off his attack against this site Monday night by calling it (non-virtuous) misinformation, I would like to call his attention to this direct verbatim quote from the Mayor of our city after Mrs. Patricia Christopher made her presentation Monday night to the council:

Transcribed from the video recording:

“Mr. Cunningham, I would like something at the announcement section of the next meeting and for the letter to be read publicly so that Mrs. Christopher’s accusations are brought to light and what the city did rather than allowing her to come up and accuse this city and staff of doing something illegal, immoral or wrong. I think we need to address it in an announcement.”

Is the Mayor’s behavior positive? Is this the virtue of the city?  Are his comments positive? Have we delegated the right to free speech before the council to the Mayor?   Does the Mayor have the right to “allow”  or "not allow" such comments?

I do know that many citizens of our city consider the city's actions against Mrs. Lucille Stevens to be both immoral and wrong - but no one can deny the legal power of the city to squash her.  This was the subject addressed by Mrs. Christopher before the council.  (More information on the Stevens situation can be found at this link:  Stevens )

Regardless of these venomous attacks, I intend to keep trying to present real information for your consideration, your decision and hopefully, your active participation in the elections coming in May!
