NRH Wants No Part of Illegal Immigration Enforcement!

by Ron West

It is the time of year again for our elected officials to publicly decide what issues to lobby for on our behalf.  Virtually every issue has to do with the city getting more money from some source of tax revenue.  In particular, NRH wants more money from State and Federal doles.   (I could not find any mention of the very significant sums that are already being received from both State and Federal programs already in existence.)

Of particular interest to our citizens should be the information that NRH has no plans to assist in controlling illegal immigrants or in any way enforcing Federal statues regarding such illegals.  Illegals should take comfort in knowing that NRH is a safe haven for them as far as local police are concerned.  As everyone is aware, our Police Department is far too busy to mess with such jobs that do not yield citation revenues or additional fees.   (If you missed it before, you are now required to pay a permit fee to have a monitored security system for you home or business.  Watch out for fines if you don't have the permit and have any alarms requiring Police response.)

The following document was laboriously copied from the Agenda for the January 8, 2007 Pre-council Work Session.  While kudos should go to the city for making the agendas with supporting documentation available on line, they deserve raspberries for disabling the ability to extract information by casual users.

If you agree with ignoring the immigration problem, then do nothing.  If you think that all agencies of the various government entities should participate in vigorous enforcement of our laws, maybe you should call the mayor or a council member and tell them so.
