Illegal Immigrants are Not Criminals According to FWST

Read Bud Kennedy's Column of 1/18/2007 -

The governor is making sense on immigration

Text Box: FWST Protecting Illegals?
After you read it, the following exchange that occurred on 1/18/2007 between Bud Kennedy and I after I read his column - should be both entertaining and enlightening.  I am now informed that illegal immigration is not a criminal matter - just a civil matter.  Read on and you too can become enlightened by the wisdom of the Fort Worth Star Telegram:    It began with the following email from me to Bud Kennedy - followed in sequence by the subsequent exchanges:

RE:  Your column in the Fort Worth Star Telegram of 1/18/07    (See link above)

Dear Mr. Kennedy,

Your column of 1/18 couldn't be further from the truth if you tried.  It is past time to stop the flow of  ILLEGALS from any country crossing our borders.

Unfortunately I voted for Gov. Perry and now find that he is at best an inveterate liar.  He led people to believe that he would be tough on illegal immigration.  He was not and is not.

His ads were deliberately misleading as were his words.  Like Bush - a liar.

The "fuming fools" you call talk radio are the only voices that now speak the truth that cannot be had in the written media as evidenced by your rantings.  Perry is certainly NOT a qualified candidate for any national office.  You can count on the fact that if he runs for any other office in the future, his vote count will be much less.

You follow his antics by calling the illegal crossing of our borders in violation of the law "immigration" rather than law breaking.  I wonder who is the "fool".

Perry's comments calling a fence to help control illegal border crossings "ludicrous"   and  "preposterous" were carefully hidden by your paper.

Just for the record, anyone who comes into our country illegally is a "CRIMINAL" by law.  Only in the USA - under bleeding heart liberals - are such criminals rewarded with so many "rights" and "benefits" for their illegal actions.

No, Mr. Kennedy, you can endorse the lying Perry/Bush position all you want, "Farmers Branch" has it right and I think the voters will show you just how right.  Maybe in the near future, other cities will "help" the Federal Government - to actually enforce our existing laws - despite your endorsement of such criminal activity.

Hi Ron,

Thanks very much for your note. It's interesting to hear from you.

Please tell me more about your family's past involvement with the League of the South.

You raised a question about the use of the word "noncriminal." That is the federal government's term.

Immigration law is civil law. Technically, violations are a civil matter.

The House passed a bill last session to make illegal immigration a crime. It failed in the Senate.

Just FYI.  I have no connection with the League of the South.  Now now, not ever.  I am proud of the fact that my great grandfather died in the service of the Confederacy fighting for states rights - not for slavery.  Do you remember that good old Abe
Lincoln freed only the slaves in the south but not those in the north?  Like most politicians, he was taking away things or possessions from others without applying his edicts to himself.  Sounds like our current congress doesn't it?

The federal government's definition probably occurred under Bush since he thinks the Constitution is just a piece of paper.  Remember your "civil" definition the next time a terrorist after they have crossed our borders illegally blows up
some more citizens.  Do you define the 911 folks as something other than criminals?

I am not a racist, bigot or any other label that you might like to pin on anyone who disagrees with you.  I consider people crossing the border getting free medical, the right to own property, and passes on our Texas laws such as requirements for liability insurance to be "criminals" since they violate laws that you only believe to be civil.  They are a threat to our society and the future
of the USA.

You might want to visit Mexico to try to buy a piece of property there after you have crossed into Mexico without going through their immigration requirements.  My bet is that they would classify you as a real criminal.   I wonder if they would
provide you with free medical after they beat you up?

Hi Ron,

You were listed as a trustee of TAIG, which promoted the League of the South and other anarchist groups through links on its Web site.

Also, I have no doubt that your great-grandfather thought he was fighting for states' rights.

However, Texas' leaders gave some other reasons for the war:

http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ref/abouttx/secession/2feb1861.html

To answer your question, immigration has always fallen under civil law. Some of the 911 pilots were visa overstayers, which is not even lawbreaking -- it is simply "out of status." Obviously, the 911 pilots were not criminals until they committed a crime.

I am not aware of anyone receiving "free medical care" unless they prove indigent status, or dodging the requirement for liability insurance.

I have no idea what you mean about illegal immigrants owning property. There is no law against anyone in the world owning American property, no matter where they live.

The answer is the same I had no connection to the League of the South.  I was a trustee for TAIG which was an organization that filed a legal lawsuit to try to preclude the use of the Social Security Number to acquire a Drivers License in Texas.  I was independent and functioned only to receive funds for the group.  Nearly $10,000 was donated to pay for the legal fees for the suit.  The case was lost and SS# - as you are aware - is becoming required to do business in the USA.  My old SS card says not for identification but that is just another government lie isn't it?

TAIG disbanded after the loss of the lawsuit.

TAIG website was not under my control and I was not affiliated with any links or content on that site.

This website was maliciously quoted by JoAnn Johnson stating that TAIG advocated overthrow of our government
by violence (which was a bald faced lie) when I ran for City Council several years ago.  She lied to enough people
that she retained her office for an additional two years.

After your latest reply, I looked up League of the South and found the following:

"The League of the South seeks to advance the cultural, social, economic, and political well-being and independence of the Southern people by all honorable means.  Thus, the central idea that drives our organization is the redemption of our independence as a nation. We envision a free and prosperous Southern Republic founded on private property, free association, fair trade, sound money, low and equitable taxes, equal justice before the law, secure borders, and armed and vigilant neutrality.  Self-governing states and local communities invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God. A bold, self-confident civilization based on its cultural and ethnic European roots.

As a means of making real our vision of a Southern Republic, we must first revitalize our largely Anglo-Celtic culture. Without a strong cultural base, political independence will be difficult to attain.  But to strengthen Southern culture, we must overcome the mis-education of our people by undertaking a campaign to properly educate them about the history of the South in particular and America in general.

To re-create Southern society, we should encourage the growth of largely self-sufficient communities among our people.  We can develop healthy local communities and institutions by "abjuring the realm:" seceding from the mindless materialism and vulgarity of contemporary American society.  To stimulate the economic vitality of our people, we must become producers and not just consumers.  By establishing "Buy Southern" programs and by forming trade guilds or associations, we can begin to wean ourselves from economic dependency.  By encouraging the use of private sources of finance, such as cooperative loans instead of the Empire's banks, we can begin to break our financial dependency.

Once we have planted the seeds of cultural, social, and economic renewal, then (and only then), should we begin to look to the South's political renewal.  Political independence will come only when we have convinced the Southern people that they are indeed a nation in the organic, historical, and Biblical sense of the word, namely, that they are a distinct people with a language, mores, and folkways that separate them from the rest of the world."

While I do not advocate southern states seceding from the union, I find that I do agree with some of their thoughts in much the same manner as I would agree with a political opponent on select issues.   Claiming that TAIG "promoted" the League of the South because of a "link" on the site would be about the same thing as saying the Fort Worth Star Telegram endorses and promotes all advertisers in your paper.  If I
remember correctly, the FWST will accept any paid advertising as long as it is not an illegal activity, vulgar or indecent.   It certainly could not be accused - as you do me - that it "promotes" such advertisers.  I believe that there were other links on TAIG also and I have no idea as to what each such link promoted.  I endorsed the fight against the use of the SS# - nothing more or less.

As to free medical care - visit John Peter Smith Hospital - any time and see for yourself.  Check out the local WIC offices to see who is receiving free food.   Citizen's who pay taxes but are very low income, wait in long lines behind these illegals in both cases.   If you don't believe that illegals can dodge liability coverage, ask any traffic officer in any city in Tarrant County.  There is not prosecution if they do not have such coverage.

As to property ownership, my point was and is that Mexico does not allow US Citizens to own property in Mexico so why would we allow illegal Mexicans (or any other illegal nationality) to own property in the US?

BTW, do you speak Spanish?

Lastly, the survivors families of 911 victims would be glad to know that you do not consider plotting the murder of thousands the work of criminals.   They probably wouldn't appreciate the fact that you do not consider "out of status" overstaying of visas or illegal entry into our country a crime.  When they used the boxcutters to threaten or kill passengers and pilots, by your logic, they were innocent until proven guilty by a court of law - so they weren't even criminals then were they?   Only after they killed the 3,000 people in their dastardly suicides did
they become criminals according to your logic.  I guess we shouldn't waste our time and resources trying to find other "illegals" who have over stayed their visas and are plotting to kill others.  After all they are not criminals yet according to your definitions.

Thanks for the enlightenment about illegal immigration being only a civil matter.  I wondered how the intellectuals justified the pandering to this group.

Ron West wrote as follow up:

Hi Bud,

In the interest of keeping you "informed", the following is recent
information provided to Senior Leadership Northeast about
Peter Smith:

Jack Lewis introduced two guests from John Peter Smith (JPS) Hospital. These being the CEO David Cecero and Senior VP of Public Relations, Robert Early. Mr. Cecero spoke to the attendees.

Some highlights of Mr. Cecro remarks are:

  • Founded in 1906 and therefore is one hundred (100) years old.
  • Has thirty (30) locations in Tarrant County.
  • JPS is one of only two trauma centers in Tarrant County
  • JPS has 3600 employees
  • JPS overall operation budget is $550 million per year
  • JPS had $290 million of charity care last year
  • Estimated Charity care for 2007 is $325 million
  • There has been no hospital district tax rate increase in five years
  • 120 beds have been added in last five years
  • Federal law requires that JPS must treat anyone who shows up at Emergency Room
Following Mr. Cecero’s remarks there were questions from the floor. These questions covered a multitude of matters with many being related to treatment of undocumented aliens.  Frank Hinchey referred the attendees to web site spp.gov. This is the home page of “Security and Prosperity Partnership Of North America”.

Just thought this might "enlighten" you on us paying for illegals treatment!

Bud Kennedy wrote:

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your reply.

I follow JPS. What did you find surprising about the facts-at-a-glance?

I hope Frank Hinchey was joking. The SPP is not a government conspiracy. Conspiracies rarely have Web sites.

(Nothing was said about a conspiracy but the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America website is both frightening and filled with information that appears to be in stark contrast to reality.  It certainly seems to indicate that our borders will soon be opened further to a flood of people who will not even have to apply for citizenship to reside in our country.)

Hi Bud

You are probably right in that all JPS patients regardless of nationality or legality
must quality according to income.  Since illegals for the most part have little or no
income - we all pay for their medical care.  You might owe it to yourself to check
this out further.

BTW, children do not have to be born in USA to qualify for WIC.

You still owe it to yourself to talk to some traffic officers.  Why write tickets to
no know addresses, no license, no insurance.  If we can't find the illegals to deport them,
why waste time writing tickets?

I was browsing this link  http://blogs.dfw.com/big_plate/immigration/index.html  (Bud's Big Plate)
at the Fort Worth Star Telegram and noticed that you link to KLIF and a sign they are promoting for area
businesses that reads, “We Hire Legal Workers Only”.  Since you are linking to it, you must be a supporter of KLIF and
an advocate for the use of such signage
.

Ron

(Comment added - not sent:)   I like the sign and think it is a good idea.

Bud Kennedy wrote:  (Red comments are added by me since this will be the last posting on this item.)

Hi Ron,

Obviously, most illegal aliens come here for jobs. Few qualify for JPS indigent care under income guidelines.

(Mr. Kennedy is either nieave or not reading the above information.  If they are illegal and in this country, JPS cannot deny treatment.)

Some come to JPS anyway and pay cash, which is legal.  (If any do pay, they would not be in the $290 Million of free care provided.)

At Parkland in Dallas, indigent care for illegal immigrants consumes about *2 percent* of the total budget.

(Please Mr. Kennedy, we don't live in Dallas do we.  Where did you get this number anyway?)

That's money, sure. But it's not an overwhelming burden. ($290 Million is not much to liberals since it other peoples money.)

Tell me more about illegal alien children qualifying for WIC. That is not true under federal law and state rules.

(I suggested Mr. Kennedy might want to check this out but it seems like he is not interested in the facts.)

The officers I know write everybody tickets. If you know some who don't, tell me where they work.

(This sounds like a threat to Police who live in the real world.  Since facts make no difference to liberals like Mr. Kennedy, we don't need to burden him with such information.  If he becomes interested in the subject, he can interview any traffic officer he wishes too.)

The intent of the KLIF link is clear from the context.

(Strange comment since any link on any other website is automatically the position of the website and anyone associated with it according to Mr. Kennedy.)

So is the intent of the TAIG link to Southern secessionists.

(One more time - TAIG stands for Texans Against Intrusive Government - and was a single issue group fighting the use of the Social Security Number to acquire a Drivers License in Texas.  The website has not existed for several years now since the group lost their legal battle in court.   Labeling and mis-information is the primary tool of our liberal press and mainstream television.  Only talk radio offers opposing views.)

My own bottom line is that we need to close our borders.  I consider this more important than closing the border of Iran with Iraq.  I respect legal immigrants and disrespect illegals.  If we are to be a nation of laws then such laws need to be enforced regardless of the opinion of our elected leaders that choose to lie to us during elections or to justify war against other nations.

I am disappointed at the responses of Mr. Bud Kennedy since he is so good with one line - misleading answers - and seems to refuse to research anything that might be contrary to his opinion.  Under the guise of "opinion" without facts he can put anything he wants in print the the Fort Worth Star Telegram.  It is up the readers to actually determine where truth actually lies.
