Mr. West,

I appreciate your most recent posting regarding the censorship/censure ordinance that will be in front of the NRH City Council on Monday, June 13th.  I wish our Council understood that we have much more important issues facing our city than whether or not something was said about them during an election.  It astounds me how they continue to harp on everything negative and see no positives while governing our city.

In last year's budget, our council voted to eliminate the taping of our pre-council meetings.  I knew then it was a mistake.  Most discussions of issues, including this one, take place during the pre-council meetings.  Without the taping and broadcasting of these integral discussions, our citizens are left to wonder why we make many of the decisions we do.  It is my belief that the City should immediately begin broadcasting pre-council meetings.

Several citizens, including you, have been very helpful in creating audio and video tapes of these meetings.  You have all, through your efforts, created a record of what takes place, the tone of voice of our members, and the wording of their comments.

At the time of the May 23rd, 2005, council meeting, I was out of town on an Economic Development trip.  From the video you made available, I was able to ascertain what transpired to cause the creation of a new ordinance council will shortly be voting on.

While you and I disagree on some things, the creation of a permanent record of our meetings is certainly not one of them.

Thank you
Nancy Bielik
